Here are some of his other prototypes of the conception. <a href="https://shufti.blog/?s=Marker+light">https://shufti.blog/?s=Marker+light</a></p><p>I really like how this version looks as it’s simple and sleek. They are machined from aluminum and powder coated black. Attention to detail even has a curve matching the van’s body. Well done Alistair.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhods1CunAmnJSLzPJN3B2CnyaOPwmfoe6ig7T7zaES4oF47uJg6GrsasUzc2C91ARMx1ULeOPbtn_pv0Ilx8TjWTKSE4EozokcKoVLaDGkHjFQ3wFXqEzsC44jl4o2Pubwa5ZVWu2WQfcZV3HQOXpCup0lDXfMZLwD31JdE8C_hKDLhfUMWJ2DnGjDoQ/s4032/137F26CE-8EBE-4312-975A-8090BD9579DC.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhods1CunAmnJSLzPJN3B2CnyaOPwmfoe6ig7T7zaES4oF47uJg6GrsasUzc2C91ARMx1ULeOPbtn_pv0Ilx8TjWTKSE4EozokcKoVLaDGkHjFQ3wFXqEzsC44jl4o2Pubwa5ZVWu2WQfcZV3HQOXpCup0lDXfMZLwD31JdE8C_hKDLhfUMWJ2DnGjDoQ/s320/137F26CE-8EBE-4312-975A-8090BD9579DC.jpeg" width="240" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxEpJuaaXqfLWkWCjiRrih6lvr3CWh1Bme87IgQewhDAv7HRU197vrZbmDL0ZMpjV9wnm5TIxY0VEw4WtQwBe8LGP6YfP8EsS2phxelvY5S8dysYCbyqXkEFuM3AnwQ4KTDBS9v0O_Ym50Rq-8xPZD4g6MJu5z5ddrzPpS7peuohJnflZ31LYWfhftJw/s4032/05E548D1-3351-4821-9030-6F3E97D5A00A.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxEpJuaaXqfLWkWCjiRrih6lvr3CWh1Bme87IgQewhDAv7HRU197vrZbmDL0ZMpjV9wnm5TIxY0VEw4WtQwBe8LGP6YfP8EsS2phxelvY5S8dysYCbyqXkEFuM3AnwQ4KTDBS9v0O_Ym50Rq-8xPZD4g6MJu5z5ddrzPpS7peuohJnflZ31LYWfhftJw/s320/05E548D1-3351-4821-9030-6F3E97D5A00A.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p></p>T-revhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09307002671729587664noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2407844081875417933.post-35882788960030361582022-11-12T11:16:00.003-07:002022-11-12T11:16:52.879-07:00Propex heater installed and fridge removal<p> I purchased a Propex HS2000 from frankcondelli.com and removed my Dometic fridge. After 11 years of inconsistent lighting/staying lit fridge performance, I decided to free up some space for storage and construct some well needed shelves. My fridge has had plenty enough attention throughout the years, with upgrades such as the pump mod, new igniter, new electrode wire, cleaned and resealed burner canister, internal and external fans installed, etc. Unfortunately it was never reliable; It often didn’t continue to stay lit after two solid days of running and would not re-light. A cooler with a block of ice proved much more reliable so it was time for the fridge to leave! Placement of a Propex heater is a controversial subject among van owners. There are all sorts of various locations where they’ve been installed but for me, I wanted hot air to rise as close to the front of the bench seat/bed as possible. Also I wanted access to the heater unit if there ever was a reason to open it up to do a reset or other maintenance. Under the bench seat wasn’t going to work for me only because I prioritized space there for a subwoofer and the space beside that, was reserved for other gear that fits well in that spot. I wanted the venting grill below the fridge to stay intact and useful as heater intake so needed to ensure that the unit was raised just the right amount. The heater outlet needed to be just high enough to reach the provided plastic diverter unit and the fore/aft measurements also needed to be just right in order for the door to still be able to close. The trickiest part might have been getting the plastic vent grill into the door where it lined up accurately to the heater outlet. All worked out and it’s a pretty clean looking install.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUWGdSnpThHLVFFImBPqlBqi40dZF0GzU5_DPrKeWYSp2HVnHYitWeDI_qX0zIbCt_ky9FthOZ3Bxl76WOLL39SbcXBXlx94NRDepF32VNGXUMuhuswKLLFGt4flj1TkWhF3NnJMZA_qFu0zZTf1D6u6XXzpZqvd5AOKWftJGGYpFgm-EQM0p-JTKiew/s4032/39F3899C-C732-4AFC-8D74-73943B2F8CA5.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUWGdSnpThHLVFFImBPqlBqi40dZF0GzU5_DPrKeWYSp2HVnHYitWeDI_qX0zIbCt_ky9FthOZ3Bxl76WOLL39SbcXBXlx94NRDepF32VNGXUMuhuswKLLFGt4flj1TkWhF3NnJMZA_qFu0zZTf1D6u6XXzpZqvd5AOKWftJGGYpFgm-EQM0p-JTKiew/s320/39F3899C-C732-4AFC-8D74-73943B2F8CA5.jpeg" width="240" /></a></div><br /><p></p>T-revhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09307002671729587664noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2407844081875417933.post-65111494391908268762022-11-12T10:44:00.001-07:002022-11-12T10:44:39.290-07:00Hookup box failure<p> My GoWesty hookup box for the ARB air compressor has had a catastrophic failure. The plastic in this housing is clearly not strong enough for the torque of hooking up and disconnecting the external hose. I don’t know anyone else having the same issue but in my case, it hasn’t been used enough to warrant such a failure. A re-engineered aluminum or stainless plate on the port wall needs to be constructed.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgO6ufNmVWSkK3byVJsJOgLgQCQ8gZYBgNM-9qUQFXLew_dLsfxB68tKSkdcvJ1MxcWAHCVyalh5D095827QFtDDGPBz1UFEMli-Gl_qS4aBtml9fc0cuBVs09_CqFKf2ly6uQZNEpWJ_iuEDnKifRie7_FUjF5k66BVVFBNQDmuBrPAdem6IQHuWOGQ/s4032/3D5FA71E-724E-47AB-88BD-3F09A224C152.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgO6ufNmVWSkK3byVJsJOgLgQCQ8gZYBgNM-9qUQFXLew_dLsfxB68tKSkdcvJ1MxcWAHCVyalh5D095827QFtDDGPBz1UFEMli-Gl_qS4aBtml9fc0cuBVs09_CqFKf2ly6uQZNEpWJ_iuEDnKifRie7_FUjF5k66BVVFBNQDmuBrPAdem6IQHuWOGQ/s320/3D5FA71E-724E-47AB-88BD-3F09A224C152.jpeg" width="240" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgs_h0zg_mWseEJ4DPabawQLsCdIu669-EaXFI-50gZtgVumjr-NO3VetotrWWKA5qppnNbo4-9Dl16KdOI0tgyXG9RWLb80H_Klwj1TvUhfhoS_eV0BN_f8WsSXEMLQsocwh3ZgjoQuLRmMheCpVnZSSZQAGW8cjUAOqJ-we4WeyzeZlBjp8YYQfWkDw/s4032/1AEA74B6-3619-42EE-A1C0-E6AFCCEE2BFE.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgs_h0zg_mWseEJ4DPabawQLsCdIu669-EaXFI-50gZtgVumjr-NO3VetotrWWKA5qppnNbo4-9Dl16KdOI0tgyXG9RWLb80H_Klwj1TvUhfhoS_eV0BN_f8WsSXEMLQsocwh3ZgjoQuLRmMheCpVnZSSZQAGW8cjUAOqJ-we4WeyzeZlBjp8YYQfWkDw/s320/1AEA74B6-3619-42EE-A1C0-E6AFCCEE2BFE.jpeg" width="240" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQxJr7K0XSSt6f02yELnnxWdzihzcRIMGFsmtO0hvaxnNjvkAo9uCuOKZhIJfda77iOjZtLEH60Eg2N7hMfDqkygmBIzLUYY1NXhxRM371qVEeleyhbGHBDTozEerqBaVbacBcCtKuTYNagXLa7VbkAVSjQgbz1nxavDL9Qlcq7gR-9GcghqGbCOi2-w/s4032/00BA504B-385D-4756-A6B3-AB62B4355736.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQxJr7K0XSSt6f02yELnnxWdzihzcRIMGFsmtO0hvaxnNjvkAo9uCuOKZhIJfda77iOjZtLEH60Eg2N7hMfDqkygmBIzLUYY1NXhxRM371qVEeleyhbGHBDTozEerqBaVbacBcCtKuTYNagXLa7VbkAVSjQgbz1nxavDL9Qlcq7gR-9GcghqGbCOi2-w/s320/00BA504B-385D-4756-A6B3-AB62B4355736.jpeg" width="240" /></a></div><br /><p></p>T-revhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09307002671729587664noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2407844081875417933.post-3886809581857565022020-09-30T19:58:00.000-06:002020-09-30T19:58:09.632-06:00Bench seat armrest mod<p> I saw on a facebook post where someone lowered their bench seat armrest in order to make it sit flush with the bed surface. I though that this simple modification is brilliant however by simply lowering it, I would loose access to a small space between the bench and the wall; I use this space for various items and it proves useful enough that I wouldn't want to be without it. I removed my armrest and cut it down in order to achieve both a flush sitting armrest (which now becomes a simple gap blocker) and still have access the small storage area. Photos below hopefully describe the process.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZPn_q2_4BWVQtCrk9YbG-qf1d6UJ_C89jIQN93voDn9p57h7GTihEVdKNLl_7vmhnvyJK4S8HcRs0n2NFkP26_lrwPj6NsUDGCv3ClO0YFWlDo_nfxaItAljrml95u__ARBk4Co-hTOeO/s2048/fullsizeoutput_21c4.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; I was told about this website that has templates for printout: <div><br /></div><div>http://andrewvanis.com/Vanagon/radiator_baffles/Other%20Files/<div><br /></div><div>I was originally thinking of using either HDPE plastic like GoWesty uses in their baffles or perhaps tin that would be easy to bend and cut. In search of the plastic however, Industrial plastics seem to indicate that it was hard to acquire. They steered me towards the local auto parts store and I bought a sheet of aluminum gasket material. It looks like it'll manage the heat of a radiator just fine and was easy to cut with a pair of tin snips. I made the mistake however when tracing out the pattern by not flipping the template in order to make a mirror image instead of two identical pieces. One piece will have to sit with cardboard backing facing the radiator while the other piece has it's aluminum profile facing the radiator. It was running fine the day before but wouldn’t start no matter how long I cranked it for. I could smell fuel being exhausted and I was getting spark. I cleaned the plugs, checked the distributor cap, cleaned up the contacts inside the cap, removed the air flow meter, checked the air filter, cleaned up the engine ground and still no luck. I ended up getting a tow to the shop where it was discovered that he distributor mounting bolt had somehow come loose and the distributor unit had jumped up slightly and spun, knocking out the timing. There was still enough friction inside to spin and create a spark just not at the correct time. Once everything was reseated and secured it is now running properly.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnCqJWp4W_yyxBHA3u53d5gscEtqe24UQo9IJ4vmQwo42GAVR9i7Nl5I1jkfuge7B9HXdbFCsPlbMrekPyyEb7rPj5yHfd65hnT-cg6aBZf1vSwlincf43porLdeh9SYlocf8iZZ2J7OB5/s2048/DA6A41B9-F165-404A-B871-2D1B8ED0ECC7.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; Thanks very much for the idea and advice Steve. A simple generic “choke cable” from the local Lordco auto supply store for $16 did the trick. I easily used a small round chainsaw file to enlarge a hole between the grates to accommodate the body of the cable pull. Wire clippers sized the spring sleeve and the inner cable to the correct lengths. I then used a lighter to heat the cable end in order to melt two holes through the hook up (heat exhaust) door, fed it through, then twisted it to secure it in place.<p></p>T-revhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09307002671729587664noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2407844081875417933.post-10740154203338160562020-08-17T23:37:00.006-06:002020-09-17T11:06:36.153-06:00Main Coolant pipes replaced<p><span face="" style="background-color: white; caret-color: rgb(5, 5, 5); color: #050505; font-size: 15px; white-space: pre-wrap;"></span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span face="" style="background-color: white; caret-color: rgb(5, 5, 5); color: #050505; font-size: 15px; white-space: pre-wrap;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEirrMFXN2IqtNtAh_eRc8dGV9C7ZEoh0pAZZDxEV083YAZw-7CEMY6POH-DtaJMklGDsSpV58LFQhh95QQAELy9q2z4LlTmz_I837XXTbB59Ap4a9RpiLdl43ZJKooaXDsWJqhOo6vFZg6v/s2048/067ckaKDT6uL6x4h6KEIqg.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEirrMFXN2IqtNtAh_eRc8dGV9C7ZEoh0pAZZDxEV083YAZw-7CEMY6POH-DtaJMklGDsSpV58LFQhh95QQAELy9q2z4LlTmz_I837XXTbB59Ap4a9RpiLdl43ZJKooaXDsWJqhOo6vFZg6v/s320/067ckaKDT6uL6x4h6KEIqg.jpg" /></a>I didn't like how these two hose clamps were touching the heater hose; I added a recycled piece of plastic, attached with zip ties to protect heater hose from abrasion from the hose clamp on the coolant pipe.</span></div><span face="" style="background-color: white; caret-color: rgb(5, 5, 5); color: #050505; font-size: 15px; white-space: pre-wrap;"><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsLOXXlYNuW26Q6syfA8_ZxkYDiCnTeUwWCOjjO5LXgI4J_Z2Epc80MQVv-8ERtO0JJn2Hs4E4zjK56YDTF-pqD8Nh3K1UZZLuGOotS0I3jAiauwEEoKsjiFONEQoiv1_xuVpztLnxBuZI/s2048/Pr0FnhiDQ8C2cCCWo81iFQ.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsLOXXlYNuW26Q6syfA8_ZxkYDiCnTeUwWCOjjO5LXgI4J_Z2Epc80MQVv-8ERtO0JJn2Hs4E4zjK56YDTF-pqD8Nh3K1UZZLuGOotS0I3jAiauwEEoKsjiFONEQoiv1_xuVpztLnxBuZI/s320/Pr0FnhiDQ8C2cCCWo81iFQ.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgworNUgs5Mh4I74p16oP-674aCMUvO7ksa6KmY-OYN91CLSUYTuss6aVnLgK_AeOLRyJrQQQm0_0clDoWdvkxxyO2Cnr7kNo7oK7Y2NipmBp3Zz_eizZSDbZinCm2tqSBpaflKhuJBAjY4/s2048/xIllwFXrRGGo3D676%252Bbvzw.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgworNUgs5Mh4I74p16oP-674aCMUvO7ksa6KmY-OYN91CLSUYTuss6aVnLgK_AeOLRyJrQQQm0_0clDoWdvkxxyO2Cnr7kNo7oK7Y2NipmBp3Zz_eizZSDbZinCm2tqSBpaflKhuJBAjY4/s320/xIllwFXrRGGo3D676%252Bbvzw.jpg" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgu2L83JnaJQmfrNXIdLsVrr6b7xfWxmFBcwTiQ6NSAJOaigydSUAg0Vfixhzy_U6efsUcmPFKlvlFMwvWBNyXsqLxQaqa_TjvqNoeuf_gQz1UJKtaGzNJQNi6eSp2MfDcSTKxFEeBY6qSJ/s2048/ZSC6S67KTXWZlta4zNZUOg.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgu2L83JnaJQmfrNXIdLsVrr6b7xfWxmFBcwTiQ6NSAJOaigydSUAg0Vfixhzy_U6efsUcmPFKlvlFMwvWBNyXsqLxQaqa_TjvqNoeuf_gQz1UJKtaGzNJQNi6eSp2MfDcSTKxFEeBY6qSJ/s320/ZSC6S67KTXWZlta4zNZUOg.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />New GoWesty SS coolant pipes installed today. My original nylon pipes were close to blowing; Inner metal sleeves were trying to work themselves out of their proper locations. One hose flange had broken off completely. I decided to also replace my heater hoses at the same time. Apparently they were in fine shape but I feel better for having them done at the same time. Update: A week after getting the Pipes and Hoses replaced, a heater hose fell from it's hanger and created enough slack that it rubbed on the left rear axle and sprung a leak. I managed to prevent a severe overheat but came close to a disaster.</span><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFTcyIXD_A83BMikGY6T3Izi8tLXkKafQjj2Ba02X7CDhisFeHuF-VPG1K_I0FywB287VBKumzoeQ6U1JHguoOMoPa61LvjGj1HYMg7Y77Pphyphenhyphen8N430-RMyylR9m7VgZprsAEuHigUj0qL/s2048/IMG_7370.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFTcyIXD_A83BMikGY6T3Izi8tLXkKafQjj2Ba02X7CDhisFeHuF-VPG1K_I0FywB287VBKumzoeQ6U1JHguoOMoPa61LvjGj1HYMg7Y77Pphyphenhyphen8N430-RMyylR9m7VgZprsAEuHigUj0qL/s640/IMG_7370.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtR0ucf30z0QILK38XPn__4ZlrFD_3nL4HFpf5FLh3wowyk16xt8ftuIuSqbQmWgmzTtd1B66-K84-aaUbmfdi0SluTnDyTzyz3o_MRDjPGnFfffB7dtVLnbTPq6gRroKI3Wst3vWlOXpz/s2048/IMG_7369.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtR0ucf30z0QILK38XPn__4ZlrFD_3nL4HFpf5FLh3wowyk16xt8ftuIuSqbQmWgmzTtd1B66-K84-aaUbmfdi0SluTnDyTzyz3o_MRDjPGnFfffB7dtVLnbTPq6gRroKI3Wst3vWlOXpz/s640/IMG_7369.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsT0F9kEdSiSL0G8QBrE45dnz8Qk2S063qpHsaAWNUgwrLBYc9OaDXIP7xm9pNjb2KQjZOQicJQW0Dg4ANPgOj12RlKe3mHlj1BwhZ3UrP1XSHDzT7laotZoCPIUJKC2RjL6DxDTzz9r-2/s2048/IMG_7367.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsT0F9kEdSiSL0G8QBrE45dnz8Qk2S063qpHsaAWNUgwrLBYc9OaDXIP7xm9pNjb2KQjZOQicJQW0Dg4ANPgOj12RlKe3mHlj1BwhZ3UrP1XSHDzT7laotZoCPIUJKC2RjL6DxDTzz9r-2/s640/IMG_7367.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4fRL4Fwvl-4k1PGNRcj6Hw-5NCuec_9v8waR3AcCOJk5dWElANp4LJdyfyyn7762Qm4sD3RAiXTfffsPTZdBmkQRdR0j9a8e4vg9IR8w7ieY1wcj1JPUQWmhb-mSQBPrz1s30-Nx5dYoc/s2048/IMG_7366.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4fRL4Fwvl-4k1PGNRcj6Hw-5NCuec_9v8waR3AcCOJk5dWElANp4LJdyfyyn7762Qm4sD3RAiXTfffsPTZdBmkQRdR0j9a8e4vg9IR8w7ieY1wcj1JPUQWmhb-mSQBPrz1s30-Nx5dYoc/s640/IMG_7366.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><p></p>T-revhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09307002671729587664noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2407844081875417933.post-39271241043428126082020-07-02T23:42:00.001-06:002020-07-02T23:42:14.262-06:00Neutral Safety switch adjustment<br />
Lately my neutral safety switch in my gear shift lever assembly has been acting up. In order to start the engine I would have to pull the shift lever towards the steering column as I turned the key in order for the starter to engage. Taking it apart tonight I was able to loosen the two screws holding the contact block in place and adjust it forward. This seems to have solved the problem.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

MansiSpeed EV14 Fuel Injectors installed. I found out about this modern injector design from a facebook post which led me to a thesamba.com post with 8 pages of positive reviews. I am hoping to solve my recurring stalling problem when idling in hot weather. I recently replaced my spark plug wires with a new Bremi set in further attempt to alleviate the same issue. As far as I can tell, both the injectors and plug wires were original and have never been replaced until now.<br />

It's a Canadian Tire brand and is probably a basic controller but the panel looks very good and comes with a stand as well as 10ft of cable extension, which I've cut in order to make a longer extension and wire in an external port at the back of the van. I bought a two pin port as well as a matching two pin plug from Princess Auto and installed the female receptacle just left of the licence plate. This placement has to be done carefully as there is coolant expansion and reservoir tanks just behind this hole. I've placed the controller beside my newly added fuse panel under the sink and wired everything into the fuse panel. For storage of the solar panel itself I have further modified the decommissioned air conditioning cabinet just enough to be able to hold it partially inside the cabinet and against the ceiling.<br />

Back in the Sept 2019 I installed the Plasma gauge lighting set from T3 Technique. I was tired of not being able to read my speedometer easily during the daylight. These gauges seem to be very well built and the difference in the readability is dramatic. The ballast gives a high pitch whine that is suppose to dissipate over time; I am still waiting for this to happen as it is quite noticeable if the stereo isn't on.</div>

Lower Control Arm bushings are quite difficult to remove. The first one I was able to remove the inner sleeve and then tried cutting the bush. After a while, I just put a large C-clamp on it and maneuvered it out. On the second one I was unable to get the inner sleeve out so devised this pulling tool and with a block of wood to support the Control Arm, I hooked a ratchet strap to the front frame and applied pull pressure to extract the stubborn bush.</div>

I purchased a BlueSea ”safetyhub 150” and installed it recently along with my other recent upgrades. I drilled a couple of holes in the back wall of the battery box and used rubber grommets in them to run most of my wires through to the safetyhub panel. It feels great to have everything in my auxiliary circuits cleaned up and properly secured. I chose to leave my charger above the shelf and install the fuse panel below it which seems to work just fine. While the cabinet was out I decided to run an extra set of wires (the green spool in the picture above the shelf) for a possible future install of a Propex heater.<br />

I wired my unit to the Aux battery fuse panel. As well as the stock ARB power switch, I added another switch in line and put it into the hookup box so that I can have more control of when the compressor comes on and is shut off. I already have three hookup boxes so had to cut a fourth hole for the compressor hookup box. GoWesty has a very good video on their website on how to accomplish this confidently which I followed.<br />

First of all, the plywood floor was showing signs of rot so out came the kitchen cabinet and the old floor. The original rubber from Westfalia camper was in pretty good shape so I took the time to peel it off of the original plywood and cleaned it up with a pressure washer before glueing it onto new 1/4” marine grade plywood. The backside of this very tough original rubber has a woven fabric type backing that fortunately prevented it from being stretched out as I used a pry bar to separate it from the plywood. For glue I used a latex (very low door) contact cement to reattach the sheet to the new plywood and used several long strips of wood to hold it off of the wood as I positioned it in place. To insulate the floor I added flexible foam and strips of marine grade plywood in the hollows prior to laying the new floor. I used two sided tape to hold each piece in place. The top layer (floor) got some stainless screws near the original placement to secure it in place.<br />

I had been having issues getting my starter to engage. I suspected a charging system issue due to the fact my battery failed a load test and I've never addressed my alternator since owning my van.<br />
<br />
Since changing out the battery I ran into a starter problem again sporadically. I've since determined that it is the neutral safety switch (automatic transmission) being the source of the problem. I've seen a great YouTube video regarding fixing the striker plate by soldering material onto the worn area to save it. I will be trying that soon as it doesn't seem difficult to do and it saves finding replacement parts if not necessary.<br />
<br />
Also recently I was running the van in warm temps (around 30+ degrees Celsius) and having stalling symptoms while travelling at slow speeds such as intersections or gridlock highway traffic. I changed the distributor cap as it had signs of external arcing (not OEM cap). Also changed the fuel filter all with the goal of troubleshooting the stalling tendencies... so far that hasn't solved the problem so will next move onto checking grounds and various sensors to see if I can keep my engine running when that engine bay gets smoking hot.T-revhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09307002671729587664noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2407844081875417933.post-4354264297998186842016-07-20T22:07:00.001-06:002016-07-20T22:07:25.836-06:00Starter failureOnly about an hour after picking SEN up from the shop for its Vanagon syndrome issues, I experienced my first started solenoid failure in this van. Fortunately a quick fix.T-revhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09307002671729587664noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2407844081875417933.post-88467043613760084172016-07-20T22:03:00.001-06:002016-07-20T22:04:00.391-06:00More engine running issues.Had some stalling lately at stop signs or lights; dropped off SEN at the local shop to diagnose the problem. Apparently the AFM failed so had a used one installed. Friday of last week I picked up the van after having replaced the gas tank, fuel filter, tank seals, catalytic converter and used Air Flow Meter with Tantulum capacitor. Drove home, changed oil for first time since engine overhaul, then drove downtown and experienced the same "Vanagon syndrome" symtoms of stalling out. ...So back in the shop; Apparently the used AFM failed too as well as my Idle Control Module. Also, in diagnosing the running problem it was determined that my Ignition coil was way too hot to touch and as a preventative measure I had that replaced too. Also had the Go Westy Transmission cooler installed, alleviating any fear that the original unit could fail and toast both my newly rebuilt engine and transmission.T-revhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09307002671729587664noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2407844081875417933.post-80777899188360956402016-07-15T09:43:00.001-06:002020-08-19T10:01:58.599-06:00GoWesty air-oil transmission cooler installed<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhspMNLX8pv7x_P72WhooLRJwaqlIkn7ZHzwQTlhBZ78hv5ZZTKtnMBBa9OGYxY7yprTYy7fHxkeJ8JhyphenhyphenHt2BbSw4IdgVmlDcy3kcH1rOONcgI9RtybfR-ohsQaqoSjXCj1XDqzL4d5T1xw/s2048/BBA60857-4DAF-4EE8-A97F-54E2E6D6AC2F.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhspMNLX8pv7x_P72WhooLRJwaqlIkn7ZHzwQTlhBZ78hv5ZZTKtnMBBa9OGYxY7yprTYy7fHxkeJ8JhyphenhyphenHt2BbSw4IdgVmlDcy3kcH1rOONcgI9RtybfR-ohsQaqoSjXCj1XDqzL4d5T1xw/s640/BBA60857-4DAF-4EE8-A97F-54E2E6D6AC2F.jpeg" /></a></div> Transmission cooler replaced. This job was done back in 2016 however I failed to document it here until now. My mechanic claims that he has never seen an internal failure of an oil-to-coolant transmission cooler, only a failure that results in external corrosion and leakage. I am sold though on the GoWesty article theory that it is best to eliminate all together the chance of transmission fluid mixing with engine coolant. <p></p>T-revhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09307002671729587664noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2407844081875417933.post-74370931900474149592016-07-13T11:49:00.003-06:002016-07-13T12:15:19.172-06:00Charging ports and voltmetersRecently I've added some useful USB and dc power (cig lighter-style) ports. At the time I didn't realize that I had the cheap, Chinese version of axel and cv joints (assembled unit) installed. I then, also had the other side replaced that summer as a preventative maintenance measure. Both, unfortunately, were of the cost efficient, but cheaply built Chinese CV joints. Recently I had both sets of joints replaced with the German OEM joints. I couldn't stand the constant faint clicking from one or more of the relatively new joints... Never, ever cheap out if you don't like unnecessary annoying noises in your Vanagon!T-revhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09307002671729587664noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2407844081875417933.post-45824170527502362232016-07-08T15:27:00.000-06:002020-07-02T19:55:43.263-06:00South African style mudflapsRecently added the South African style mudflaps. These came from CP1 Imports in Vancouver and come with very poor instructions for the front set and no instructions for the rear. The front set use three clips to hold the flap to the wheel well. I was very sceptical about these clips staying in place on rough roads. So far, however they have not fallen off, even after travelling about 25 miles over very rough logging road. I may still, use some silicon or epoxy to reenforce the holding power of these clips for my own reassurance.<br />
