Kayaks on van for first time.

Kayaks test fit on new racks for first time; These boats are 16ft long and do stick out the back awkwardly far.  ...However my Shady Boy awning prevented having a roof rack closer to the front of the pop top.  Two advantages I can see by having the boats this far back:  (1) - I can lift the pop top (with the assistance of my strong wife) as the cg of the boats is closer to the rear hinge. (2) - I can still place lawn chairs/bbq/levelling blocks in the forward luggage rack as the bows of the boats would otherwise interfere with this space somewhat. I’ve added a couple of more recent photos here to show the placement of one paddleboard and to show how low the bow of both watercraft get to the front luggage rack. This is especially true if I use the rear “Thule glide and slide” cradle which lifts the stern higher and drops the bow slightly.

  1. Hey T-rev, I saw a photo in your photobucket that had a tarp in front of the popup window. The picture is titled "Wilcox Creek, AB". What is that for, and does it work?
